The Adventures of Benjamin Rabier

April 27 to May 26, 2019
In partnership with the Friends of Benjamin Rabier association
With the support of Anne Gérardot, Director of the Indre Departmental Archives

From April 27 to May 26, Château de Valençay will be honoring Benjamin Rabier (1864-1939), an unparalleled illustrator and emblematic figure in the world of comics, by dedicating an exhibition to him in the newly-restored Etampes Gallery.

Benjamin Rabier devoted his life to illustration and was known for his clear lines and his talent as a storyteller. An author of children’s picture books, but also a cartoonist for the press and advertising and an illustrator of fables, Benjamin Rabier also imposed himself as the specialist in animal comics, successfully endowing animals with human traits. The creator of the drawing of the Laughing Cow and the famous Gideon the duck, he was undoubtedly one of the most prolific illustrators of his time. This exhibition is an opportunity to highlight the diversity of his work through original drawings, but also picture books and posters.

In connection with this exhibition, an interactive, creative school workshop will be led by Grégory Weiss, a Fine Arts graduate, guest teacher and antique dealer in Valençay.
